In our latest interior design project, we reimagined a four-bedroom villa in Las Pérgolas, Corralejo, transforming it through a complete renovation inspired by the language of warm minimalism with Japandi and Mediterranean influences. By playing with natural light, tactile materials, and bespoke furniture, we crafted an atmosphere where every detail feels intentional, like a note in a musical composition flowing effortlessly from simplicity to sophistication. The design invites you on a sensory journey through textures and forms, striking a delicate balance between clean lines and warmth, experimentation and timeless elegance. More than just a home, Villa Hikari is a sanctuary that invites you to slow down, be fully present, and experience each moment as it unfolds.

A Design that breaks boundaries to find a new purpose within the Space.

When our client contacted our interior designer, he had recently purchased a villa with pool in central Corralejo and envisioned it as both a serene family retreat in Fuerteventura and a captivating, soulful holiday rental. From the moment we stepped into the existing property, it was evident that a radical redistribution of space was necessary to bring this vision to life. The outdated, compartmentalized layout lacked flow, with each room feeling detached from the light and rhythm of the home.

Our approach was to strip the interiors down to their essence, guided by the principles of warm minimalism and inspired by the quiet balance of Japandi design and the effortless warmth of Mediterranean living. Through natural materials, muted tones, and bespoke craftsmanship, we redefined the purpose of each space, creating a home that feels both grounded and elevated, where simplicity meets soul. The dialogue between structure and emotion became central: a layout designed not just to be seen, but to be deeply felt.

Every element was chosen with intention throughout de design process. We curated a soft, sun-washed palette, developing a bespoke tone of warm grey that envelops walls, ceilings, doors, skirting boards and kitchen cabinets in a gentle continuity. Custom-built wardrobes were complemented by natural fibre panels, adding texture and tactility while maintaining the quiet harmony of the space.

As the villa unfolds across a single level, a seamless connection between interior and exterior was essential. Openings were expanded, lines softened, and boundaries blurred, allowing light, air, and landscape to flow naturally through the home. The result is an space that feels expansive yet intimate, where architecture and minimalism become warm, human, and profoundly serene.

Beyond Design: Project Management & Spatial Transformation

Beyond the design vision, we oversaw the complete interior renovation project, managing every detail from concept to completion. From logistics and scheduling to quality control, each phase was executed with precision and care to ensure that every element reflected the project’s essence. With numerous bespoke furniture pieces and handcrafted details forming the soul of the design, meticulous planning was essential. We collaborated closely with a diverse team of artisans and professionals, aligning every step with a clear timeline to bring the vision to life with both beauty and balance.

A key transformation involved relocating the kitchen from its enclosed position to create space for an additional double bedroom. This allowed the living area to expand into a more open, breathable space, a core principle of both Japandi and Mediterranean design philosophies, where flow and function coexist naturally. The new custom-designed kitchen integrates seamlessly with the living room, featuring sleek black accents, refined finishes, and a handcrafted wooden divider designed by our studio to subtly define the two areas while maintaining visual continuity.

This design gesture establishes a quiet rhythm that carries throughout the living space. Arched openings replace traditional doors, guiding movement with softness. A built-in bench enhances conviviality around the dining table and an extended wall with sculpted niches adds both depth and warmth.

These interventions not only optimise functionality but embody the villa’s aesthetic identity. A space of calm intention and understated elegance, cohesive and alive, where design and emotion converge into a single, seamless experience.

A Dialogue between Rawness and Minimalism

Once the spatial structure was stripped to its essence, it became clear that the space could dictate the design. Our concept emerged as a dialogue between the tactile honesty of materials and the poetic softness of light. The villa’s language became one of contrasts: grounded yet ethereal, sculptural yet fluid.

To strike this balance, we applied microcement flooring throughout the entire house, including the bathrooms, creating a monolithic, continuous effect that amplifies light and stillness. The walls and ceilings were finished in textured Cal, a lime-based material that embraces imperfection. Its deliberately uneven surface adding depth and movement. This interplay of surfaces forms the foundation of Villa Hikari’s immersive atmosphere, enveloping the senses and evoking a meditative calm that feels both timeless and present.

The Poetry of Light

Light plays a defining role in this project. As it shifts throughout the day, it transforms every surface, changing the perception of texture and tone. At sunrise, the soft greys and neutrals feel weightless and contemplative while by sunset, golden and pink reflections bathe the space in warmth, echoing the Mediterranean twilight. Every corner become a living organism, breathing, adapting, and evolving with time.

Materiality: Contrast and Stillness

If the sculptural quality of microcement and Cal defines the villa’s structure, the material palette gives it soul. Each element was chosen for its ability to express both contrast and stillness. Marble for its veined permanence, stone and ceramic for their organic tactility, and wood for its lived warmth.

Veined marble emerges as a recurring motif, appearing in the kitchen backsplash and echoed in select furniture pieces. Rounded shapes in the dining table and sofa soften the geometry, reflecting the gentle curves of the architecture and the subtle balance of the design.

To complement the raw textures, we introduced custom wooden elements like beams, shelves and the handmade divider that root the interior decoration in authenticity. Each piece was crafted from aged natural wood, intentionally weathered to convey a sense of time and story. This curated imperfection invites touch, reminding us that even stillness carries traces of life.

The Indoor-Outdoor Connection

As with the interior, surface textures and tonal continuity were essential in creating a dialogue between indoor and outdoor spaces. The edges of the heated pool blend into the newly refinished white flooring, amplifying the sense of air and openness. Custom-built benches and sculptural seating maintain a fluid rhythm between structure and landscape.

The outdoor veranda was completely reimagined as a versatile and supremely comfortable retreat, sheltered from the wind and equipped with a ceiling fan for warmer days. It's a space where every moment outdoors can be truly enjoyed. Crisp white fabrics, natural finishes, and soft ambient lighting extend the warmth of the interior into the open air.

Plush sofas and an inviting dining area create an effortless blend of relaxation and elegance. The surrounding garden, redesigned as a minimalist cacti landscape, completes the serene Mediterranean essence, offering a constant reminder of the island’s natural poetry.

A Space that Embodies Creativity and Emotion. Light and Presence

Almost unconsciously, light guided the entire creative process. An invisible thread weaving through form, material and purpose.

It felt only natural that the Japanese word Hikari, meaning light, would encapsulate the project's spirit and its intangible elements of air, silence, warmth and reflection. Elusive forces that cannot be held, yet give life into everything they touch within the space.

The interiors unfold in a peaceful flow, illuminated by a light that touches every surface and material with a mindful approach to impermanence. A light that embraces the passage of time as an aesthetic principle. It is a space where boundaries dissolve, where design becomes an act of presence beyond past and future.

We wanted Villa Hikari to be more than a house. We wanted it to be an experience.

A place where the present moment becomes the ultimate luxury and invites you to simply be.

Only by being fully present, as the mood of the space naturally shifts around you with the passage of time, can you, perhaps for a fleeting moment, capture the impermanent, peaceful beauty that only contrasts can reveal.
